The Madonna and Saints

19th century?
Oil on panel (pew backs)
St. Michael's Parish Church, San Candido/Innichen, Italy.

The center panel is unusual in that it combines Madonna iconography (the child, the crown) with that of the Immaculate Conception (the moon and serpent).

While the central panel puts the figure in the clouds, the other two place their subjects in idealized landscapes. Blaise is identified by the candle and episcopal garb, Catherine by the crown, sword, and broken wheel.

The style seems to be of the 19th century.
